V House | Residential

A plot at the Entrance of Nafplio

Argous Street has connected Argos and Nafplio since ancienttimes. As the main entrance to Nafplio, it offers a direct view of the imposingPalamidi Castle rising ahead of visitors. To the west, glimpses of the seaappear through the buildings, while to the east, small hills and the rollingArgolian landscape unfold. The plot is located on the east side of the street, positioned at an angle facing both the road and Palamidi Castle.

V House - Interweaving of prisms

The new building is formed by the interlocking of tworectangular prisms that follow the axes of the ancient road and the axis ofview towards the monument. The volumes intertwine with the condition of turningon two axes, producing a complexity of experience in the whole composition. Theday-use spaces are placed at the ground floor level, while the sleeping spacesare placed at the upper level. The turning of the prisms releases a bravesection of deep roof which forms an elevated viewing terrace functionallyconnected to the ground floor outdoor space by means of an external staircase.

The Courtyard acts as a common space of experiential reference

The spatial experience of the courtyard reappears in theproject at the level of the outdoor space on the ground floor. An elongatedpergola, as a detached element from the building, and a swimming pool with a angledoutline, create a courtyard-like environment with controlled shading. Thisspace can be experienced both from the ground floor and the walkable rooflevel. The courtyard atrium serves as an outdoor space of reference, offeringintimacy and privacy for the residents while still maintaining an open view ofthe sky.
